Although adopting a dog is much better than buying one from a breeder or store, they are usually older, and this takes one of the pleasures out of owning a dog. That is naming it. When you buy an unnamed puppy you get to go through numerous names before settling on one. There is a certain amount of responsibility when naming a dog. You would not like to name it something that when you call its name in the local park it causes offense to someone.

One of the best and simplest ways of picking a name is to use one which is associated with its coloring. So brown dogs can be called Chocolate of Coffee. A white dog can be Snowy or Whitey. Other ways of naming a dog is to call them something that they resemble, so for a chihuahua that could be Tiny, while for a St Bernard you could use Giant.
